This 15-Minute Spiritual Practice will Change Your Life

Hey, it’s Michael,

I have one of the best spiritual habits you can build this year.

Ask yourself: what if I set aside just 15 minutes a day to talk to God?

That’s just one percent of your day.

A lot of times, we let work, family, and other obligations take up our attention. But let’s be honest. We also waste a lot of the other 99% of our day scrolling, staring at a screen, and just plain procrastinating.

By the time our day is over, we (hopefully) realize — we forgot to pray.

Think about it: if you went days or weeks without speaking to your best friend or your spouse, odds are your relationship would suffer. The same is true for our relationship with God.

So we need to build the habit by starting small.

Gary Jansen explains why 15 minutes is so effective in his book, The 15-Minute Prayer Solution: How One Percent of Your Day Can Transform Your Life. He writes:

“Did you know that there are 1,440 minutes in a day? It’s true. I did the math. Did you also know that one percent of all that time is fourteen minutes and twenty-four seconds? What would happen if you made a conscious decision, every day, to exercise your soul by giving roughly fifteen minutes of your time over to God? Just one tiny percent of your life. Would your life change? Mine did.”

Praying for 15 minutes is sustainable because it is attainable. If we’re honest, we can all find 15 minutes in our day.

If you need structure to follow through, try setting tomorrow’s alarm on your phone to go off 15 minutes earlier, or maybe set three separate alarms and do it in several segments throughout your day.

It may seem like a short time, but when it’s done in faith, the effects are life-changing.

Let us know if you start this practice. We’d love to cheer you on and celebrate with you!

Another Good Practice…

If you’ve been following along, you know that we have been learning about fasting for the last month. In fact, last week, we wrapped up our study on the spiritual practice of fasting.

Even though the course is over, we are continuing this practice as a church. So pick a day and fast with us!

Guess when we are NOT fasting though?

On Sunday, March 23rd, after church, we will Engage At the Table (EAT) together! This is always a great time, and we can’t wait to share the table and a meal again! So sign up today and join us to EAT!

Quick reminder - If you like getting our newsletter every week, please do “add to address book” or reply to this email. These are “positive signals” that help our newsletter land in your inbox.

Thanks as always for your time, attention, and trust. See you this Sunday at 10am!
